The University of Leeds International Foundation Year (IFY) forms the first year of a suite of integrated programmes intended for those international students who have the potential and motivation to succeed, but who do not yet have the formal qualifications required for entry to level 1 of a University of Leeds undergraduate degree programme.
We regret that we are no longer accepting applications for 2014 entry. However, a number of alternative International Foundation Year routes to University of Leeds undergraduate degree programmes are offered by other education providers and information about these can be obtained by e-mailing email@example.com .
The IFY begins in September each year - the next intake is in September 2015. There is no intake in January.
The integrated programmes currently available are:
Arts with Integrated IFY (including “Cinema and Photography”, “Criminal Justice and Criminology”, “Cultural Studies”, “English, Language and Education”, “English Literature”, “History of Art”, “International Development”, “International Relations”, “Law”, “New Media”, “Politics”, “Sociology”) – 4 years
Business with Integrated IFY – 4 years
Design with Integrated IFY – 4 years
Engineering with Integrated IFY for Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) - 4 years or for Integrated Master of Engineering (MEng,BEng) - 5 years
Joint Honours with Integrated IFY – 4 years
Science with Integrated IFY – 4 years
Each of these programmes consists of two elements: the IFY (level 0) element, which is taught at National Qualification Framework (NQF) level 3, followed by a three or four – year undergraduate degree element, which is taught at NQF level 6. The level 0 element provides a firm grounding in the subjects required for the undergraduate element and both elements are delivered at the University of Leeds.
If you obtain specific grades on the IFY element you will progress automatically to level 1 of your undergraduate element. Please click here for further information about these progression requirements.
These integrated programmes are some of the most successful and longest running courses of their type in the UK. Since their first intakes in September 1989 they have attracted more than 2000 students from over 80 countries with the vast majority of these successfully obtaining a University of Leeds undergraduate degree. Some students have also continued to Masters and PhD degree programmes.
